MyBlogLog Widget – Reward Your Visitors

Posted by: pctutorials  :  Category: Tips, Wordpress

If you had not noticed, I’ve just recently added the MyBlogLog Recent Readers Widget. I had neglected adding this widget since starting as I did not think it was important. I’ve changed my mind now. Enabling this widget exposes the reader’s website/blog in the little avatar, to the rest of the visitors. I think it’s the least I can do to give something back to you as a loyal reader.

In the near future, I’m going to be posting my second youtube video. I’m going to have a lot of fun with this one, so stay tuned ;) .

Fix Your Scratched LCD Screen

Broken LCD

If you’re like the many people that own a portable device such as a mobile phone, Mp3 player, or even a laptop, you’ll know how exposed your LCD screen is to being scratched. If by misfortune you have scratched your LCD screen, you just might be able to fix it. After reading various articles, people have said that they’ve had great success fixing their LCD screens by using an eraser.

How can using an eraser possibly fix an LCD Screen? Well, the logic is that by rubbing gently over the scratch with the eraser, the surrending area of the screen becomes level with scratch. Simple isn’t it?

My brother had great success using this method on his Sandisk 2GB Mp3 player; got rid of the minor scratches quite well. I would suggest to anyone who owns a portable device with an LCD screen get a LCD screen protector. DealExtreme offer great prices on their LCD screen protectors. So far I’ve purchased three from them and they work quite well on my Nokia phone. They ship internationally too.

Just note that if you have a major scratch or have done critical damage to your screen, this method may not be for you. Consider getting a professional to repair it or if possible, claim warranty.

Organize Downloads in Firefox with Download Sort Extension

Posted by: pctutorials  :  Category: FireFox, Tips

Anyone that uses FireFox to download files knows how unorganized Firefox is. You’ll be left with a bunch of files in one folder in which you’ll have to filter though manually. Download Sort Extension solves this problem.

Download Sort Extension
This extension will organize downloads by filetype and store them in folders set by the user. For example, when you download mp3 files, it’ll store them in the Mp3 folder. If you download JPEG files, it will store them in the JPEG folder and so on.

This extension will save you a lot of time. Give it a go. :)

Download Youtube Videos in One Click

Posted by: pctutorials  :  Category: Tips, YouTube

I get annoyed sometimes either when an online service doesn’t work, or the free progam used has adware bundled. Alex Chitu has come up with an awesome idea to allow you to download YouTube videos in high quality quite easily. It works in Firefox, Opera.

  1. If you haven’t already got it installed, FireFox users need the Greasemonkey extension installed. Opera has built-in support for user scripts.
  2. Download this Greasemonkey script and enable it.

When you open up a Youtube video page, you should see a download like like this:

Remember, when you save the file, rename it to an .MP4 file. This little tip should save you a lot of frustration. ;)

Did you know you can increase your Alexa Rank quite easily? I don’t know how the Alexa algorithm works, but many people have reported great success of increasing their rank by installing the Alexa widget on their website or blog. Before I had installed this widget, I was rank 3,569,506. The next day i dropped 300,000 places closer to 1! This is something you should defiantly tryout as it doesn’t cost you a cent. Leave a comment and tell us your results with the Alexa widget.

UltraEdit More Than A Text Editor

UltraEdit

Hands up all those who have notepad! That is probably most of you if you’re running a windows OS :) . Back when I first started my Bachelor of Technology, my first unit was Introduction to Information Technology, and as a part of the unit, we had to design our own basic website. We were not allowed to use a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor, because it was to help our learning. We could have used notepad, but that could lead to headaches. So, a suggested program was UltraEdit.

UltraEdit is the ideal text, HTML and HEX editor, and an advanced PHP, Perl, Java and JavaScript editor for programmers. An industry-award winner, UltraEdit supports disk-based 64-bit file handling (standard) on 32-bit Windows platforms (Windows 2000 and later).

In my case, I used it to build a HTML website. And to break it down, I could easily navigate between HTML documents I was working on through its tabbed interference , similar to that of FireFox. Tags were highlighted automatically, and it was easy to spot open tags. I could keep rambling on about it, because it has been so helpful to me, even today when i work on WordPress theme’s, I still use it. You can get a list of features at the Ultra Edit website if your interested.

The only catch is, it does cost $50 bucks. But all i can say is, it’s 50 dollars well spent. Maybe you know of a free text editor or similar that you like. If you know of one, please share it ;) .
