TeraCopy – Copy files faster and safer

Whether you are a PC enthusiast or not, chances are you have had to transfer files to either a USB stick, another hard disk or even another computer. Generally speaking, Windows “does the job”, but that’s it. Especially when you’re transferring large files, a small hiccup can cause the transfer to halt.

Thanks to the folks at Code Sector, they have invented a piece of software that integrates into the Windows shell and that will transfer files faster and safer: TeraCopy. What I mean by safer is that you can pause the transfer at anytime you like, then resume at a later time.

You know, I think Code Sector should contact Microsoft and ask them if they can integrate their software into Windows 7. Seriously, everyone should own a copy of TeraCopy.

Very nice app! Just thought about this yesterday when cleaning/structuring up my hard drives, a lot of data moving across multiple drives and some occasional failures… “Which files were it that I had selected for moving again!?”

Some other apps which I can recommend:
    Switcher for Vista(W7) – insentient.net
    Basically Exposé for Windows

    Link Shell Extension – http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html
Nice app for creating junctions (and other types of ntfs-links) more easily, absolutely great if you have the need for such

    Fences – http://www.stardock.com/products/fences
Is your desktop cluttered? Organize you icons easier by creating small containers with labels

    FoxTab (addon Firefox) – http://www.foxtab.com
“Windows Flip 3D” for FF, not that you use F3D that often…

    Fiddler – http://www.fiddler2.com
Great for monitoring what’s sent between your browser and the web servers you are visiting. If you happen to troubleshoot odd web request behaviors occasionally this tool will make it that much easier to pinpoint the problem

    HandBrake – handbrake.fr
Great for creating videos e.g. for your(??) iPhone

    XBMC for Windows – xbmc.org
Works brilliantly as a media center now also for Windows. My old Xbox is not needed anymore…

    TreeSize Free – http://www.jam-software.com/freeware
If you happen to be running XP still, foldersize.sourceforge.net is a better alternative (integration in windows shell). Otherwise TreeSize will come in handy when trying to find those GB of trash…

    Enjoy and thanks again

Wow, that’s a nice list of apps you have there Magnus! Fences will come in handy. Thanks for sharing!

Also, this website is up for sale, due to my work load, I figured someone with more time on their hands would be better off running this site. I’ll keep in touch though Magnus! Cheers,
    John

Yeah, fences is great! Saw that it hit 1.0 finally now as well. Actually bought TeraCopy and recommended it in a work related case as well. We’re going to filter out a a lot of files from about a half terabyte of data soon and need to make sure that the copy of the production data is valid. TeraCopy will come in handy then!

Good luck with the selling of the web site. I’ve been under a high work load during the last months as well and know what you mean with not having enough time over… :)

    Take care
